Pittsburg 1 @ San Jose 3
Nabokov pushes for that Weekly #1 Star position.
The Sharks would get lucky early one when a pass by Thornton was put in by Mark Eaton, would was trying to take away the passing lane. The 1st period would be a defensive battle as both teams weren't able to put up very much shots.
In the second Goc was able to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead with a shot from near the blueline. Like the first period, the second was all about trying to jump on the opponents mistakes...and neither made many.
In the 3rd period, Thornton was able to get his second lucky goal of the game when he was stopped on a breakaway deke, but Fluery put it in his own net. Later in the period Thornton would have been able to get his "lucky hat trick" when Fluery passed the puck directly to him. But with the game already 3-0, Thornton held off.
Then late in the 3rd controversy struck! At 13:58 of the 3rd period Roberts was finally able to get one by Nabokov. Immediately after the goal Nabokov went nuts and was waving his arms. The ref skated over to the time keeper's box. As the crowd at the Shark Tank watched the JumboTron, the reply clearly showed that Roberts had kicked puck in the net AND it was a clear kicking motion. After several minutes the ref pointed to center ice. The crowd went nuts! No one could understand why the goal stood, even though there was clear evidence that the puck was kicked in. The game would continue and the Shark would go on to win a 3-1 game.
