San Jose 4 @ Edmonton 1 (F)

The night the lights went out in Piestany...err...Edmonton.

It would be a weird off season for Coach Critter. After enjoying a successful regular season and bringing home the Cup to Dallas, management decided that the Stars needed a change. They fired coach Critter. But Coach Critter would have the last laugh as he already had jobs lined up in either Detroit or San Jose...he eventually ended up with San Jose, when their original coach went missing.

San Jose's home opener would be against a rival of sorts for Coach Critter...Edmonton. The game would start off similar to the earlier playoff games played between the two coaches, but would end with a bang!

No one would be able to convert on any chances and the play was tight. But just over half the way through the period, Edmonton would take a penalty. With the man advantage and Ryan Smyth lying hurt on the ice, San Jose was able to take advantage and get the early lead on a goal by Brown. Smyth would leave the game and not come back. The injury is being described as "lower body", and there was no word as to when he would be back. Nothing else would play out in the 1st.

In the second period, Coach Critter would get one of his signature early goals as Cheechoo would come in all alone and deke Roloson for a goal just 33 seconds into the period. If Coach Critter knew anything, he knew his 2 goal lead wasn't good against Coach TigerToa. Edmonton tried their hardest to get back into the game but struggled as it seemed it was not their night. San Jose was able end the period off with another goal 19:17 into the second period. Then with another goal halfway through the third, all was lost for Edmonton. Their only hope now was to break the shutout. And they did that. With just 37 seconds left Moreau took a pass from Reasoner and put one over the shoulder of Toskola to break the shutout.

Shortly after the goal Moreau was heard yapping at Toskola about how he broke his shutout bid. When Mclaren heard this, he yapped back about how Edmonton was going to lose the game. With both teams getting fired up, the puck was dropped for the next shift. And only a few seconds later a two-handed slash was thrown and the gloves dropped in what could only be described as an "All Out War". Both benches cleared and there was gloves, sticks, teeth and blood everywhere. With officials losing control of the battle and fights breaking out in the stands, the lights were turned off in Rexall Place. After several minutes the lights came back on and the melee had settled. With only 23.5 seconds left, the game was called **actually the EA servers booted us**. After the game, both teams could be heard swearing about how they were going to stick it to the other team when they play in San Jose! Should be a doosy!
