Vancouver 2 @ San Jose 3 (OT)
Wild finish to a tight game!
Vancouver would take an early lead in this one when Smolinski would steal the puck and fire it low past Toskala. Once again Loungo was brilliant when he had to be. Although, SJ would hit a couple posts in the period and then get another post in the 3rd. Vancouver would dominate the first period and only allow only 3 shots against.
It played out similar for most the second period. Loungo would stop every chance SJ would get, including a couple clear breakaways. And after the shaky start Toskala was on his game. With just under 3 minutes left to play in the 2nd, SJ would get the equalizer. Marleau would jump on a loose puck and deke Loungo enough that he could slide it 5-hole.
Halfway through the 3rd Vancouver would go back on top. On some hard work and a take-away Naslund would be fed a pass at the side of the net and hammer it top shelf in a matter of milliseconds. Toskala had no chance. With Loungo not giving an inch it seemed like SJ was just watching the clock tick down to end the game...until Cheechoo gave them a reason to believe. With about 10 seconds left on the clock, Cheechoo and Clowe would forecheck hard and make the only D-man back give up the puck....Cheechoo picked up the loose puck and headed into the Canuck zone all alone....it all seemed a little too late with the clock ticking down and Loungo stopping all 10 or so breakaways so far...with 3 seconds left Cheechoo was able to finally deke out Loungo and tie the game! Everyone's jaw dropped, including coach Dragon and coach Critter!
With the momentum in San Jose's favour it didn't take long before they would complete the comeback. Just 35 seconds into OT Marleau was able to pick up a loose puck after a strong fore-check and streak in all alone and successfully deke out Loungo for the game winner.
