Finals - Game 1: Dallas @ New Jersey
Welcome to the big show!
With both teams having a bit of a break before the finals, no one was sure what would happen. It wouldn't be long until the first goal in the Stanley Cup Finals was scored. Only 37 seconds in, Morrow was left all alone in front and was able to slide one by Brodeur to take the early lead. Then halfway through the first Dallas was able to double their lead on a shot from the point that Jokinen was able to jab through Brodeur's pads.
It seemed as though Dallas would have an easy victory. Something or someone on the NJ bench needed to spark the team. It would be none other than tuff guy Cam Janssen. He was sent in all alone and deked Turco for the first New Jersey goal. No one in the building could beleive it, not even the stats guys who didn't put the goal down in the game stats.
The 2nd period would start out the same as the first. Dallas was able to get a goal just 1:12 into the second period, from a slapshot from Zubov off a face off. The stars would then get another halfway through the second on a breakaway goal by Lindros.
It seemed like all hope was lost for the Devils and remnants of the regular season started to show it's ugly head....until Pandalfo decided to show his team that they weren't dead yet. With a goal just 1-1/2 minutes after Lindros', and another early in the 3rd Pandalfo gave his team some light. With 5 minutes left the Devils pressured hard and had multiple chances but just couldn't put the puck by Turco. The Stars would hang on for a huge road win!
The players then went to the dressing room for a 10 minute break to eat some oranges before the back-to-back game.
