Round 2 - Game 2: Dallas @ Edmonton

"I'm not going to have nails after this round!"

Game 2 would start out very similar to game 1 with Edmonton getting a SH goal to open up the scoring. Horcoff finished off a beautiful passing display and put it the open net while Turco was picking up his Jock. Rexall went crazy, including the Toa family that was in attendance to cheer on Tiger's team. The 1st period finished with smiles on the Edmonton fan's faces as they were able to keep the lead and stay up 1-nothing.

The second period started out just as intense as the previous 4 periods. Dallas was able to quiet the crown when Lehtinen tapped in one of those don't-have-to-press-the-shoot-button-cause-your-guy-gets-tripped-up-by-the-goalie-but-the-puck-still-seems to-somehow-go-in-the-net goals.

Then an event would happen that Critter3 worried would be the TSN Turing Point in the series. With the score tied 1-1, Riberio was sent in all alone. Ribs was able to make Roloson pick up his jock with a beauty deke......but he wasn't able to beat the post. The shot rang off the crossbar. The Oil then quickly moved it down to the Dallas zone...and anyone who watches hockey knows what happens next...While the Stars were scrambling to get back, Sykora was left wide open and put it in the net to give the Oil the lead. The goal brought back bad memories of when Stefan missed the open net and Edmonton turned it around to score. And just like that night, the crowd was ear numbing.

With only a few minutes left in the second and Dallas' hopes of coming back were fading away, Lehtinen was again able to get one of those don't-have-to-press-the-shoot-button-... goals. Critter3 knew he was extremely lucky to be tied. Early in the third period (I believe off the face off) Dallas was able to take advantage of their previous 2 goals and take the lead. Off the face off, the puck was passed up to Modano and the Oilers seemed to swarm him, so he passed up to Morrow who was streaking in all alone. He was able to deke and go 5-hole for the marker. TigerToa must have given his defence an ear full, because their defence tightened up after that goal. And so did Dallas', as for most of the rest of the period no one was able to get another goal...until... with 35 seconds left Moreau rifled one that went off Turco's blocker. Everyone in the building knew where the puck was...except Turco...the puck went in the air and hit Turco in the back and in the net. "Hey, I'm not a psychopath, I didn't know where the puck was", stated Turco after the game. "It's psychic, not psychopath" explained a reporter. "Whatever!", exclaimed Turco.

Although the action was back and forth, no team was able to stop the game from going into overtime. Neither team wanted to give up the winning goal in OT. The defence was tight, and the ass-clenching from all the excitement and close calls, was even tighter. Both teams was looking for the situation when they could capitalize on the other teams mistakes. And Dallas was the team to strike. With the Oil defense forgetting about the lecture they received earlier, Meittenin was able to go in all alone and deke to get the open net.

Dallas wins, with the series shifting back to Dallas where the Stars hope to close the series at home.

Final: Dallas 4 @ Edmonton 3 (OT1)

*No stats because I forgot to take them down after the 3rd period.

I think shots were 25-18 for you after the 3rd (you shut me down in shots in the 3rd).
Great competition but *sigh* does it have to turn out like 95% of the Dallas-Edmonton series ... all close games but Dallas wins? ;)
