Round 2 - Game 1: Edmonton @ Dallas
Stars and Oil renew rivalry in playoffs
It's been a few years since Dallas and Edmonton met in the playoffs, and this series is shaping up to be no different. A nail biter all the way.
The scoring started in the first with Edmonton taking the early lead shorthanded. It was sort of a fluke goal by Smyth, when he blindly through it at the net from about 6 inches behind the goal line and it deflected off the Turco and in. "I planned it that way", smiled Smyth as he explains what happened. The lead would be short lived however when Riberio was sent in all alone on the same PP and was able to put one past Rolson.
The scoring went back and forth with Horcoff putting one off Turco's elbow and in, and then Ott completed the one-timer from a pass from Hagman, who did a spin-orama to get away from defenders. Then the Stars took the lead for the first time when Miettenin put one top shelf over the glove of Rolson. But again, a lead would be short lived when Bergeron blasted one past Turco.
In the third Dallas would take control of the game. Jokinen and Riberio would both get a goal to put the Starts up by two. Then just when it seemed the game was out of reach for the Oil, luck turned their way with 25 seconds left. On a mishandle by Zubov he through it towards his net surprising Turco and hitting him in the pads. Smyth took advantage to get his second goal of the game, and jammed the puck in the net before tripping over Turco's pads.
Edmonton then won the face off and skated into Dallas' end. Dallas was not able to regain possession as the Oil was pressing hard. The fans were up on their feet praying and the Stars were running around leaving men open, to chase the puck. Then with only 10 seconds left a pass from behind the net misses the defenseman and the puck slides to the Edmonton zone to end the game. The fans, Dallas players, and Critter3 could sigh relief.
Final: Edmonton 4 @ Dallas 5
