New Jersey 4 - Boston 1
The New Jersey Devils hosted the Boston Bruins last night and came away with the crucial 2 points as the season deadline has come upon us. In what was a close game quickly turned into a rout as the sleeping pills OTH ordered were disolved into the Boston water bottles at the start of the third period.
After the National Anthem was played and the teams started feeling each other out, Brian Gionta was able to stand untouched at the side of the crease, and the diminutive forward was able to whack away at the puck and eventually slip it through Tim Thomas' pads for a goal at 6:26.
In the second period, league tall guy Zdeno Chara scored his first goal of the season off a slapshot from the point that seemed to knuckle past Brodeur's blocker pad untouched to tie the game at 6:45.
Late in the third period, Coach OldTimeHockey was back at his tactics. Publicly stating as the final minutes wound down that even if he lost, he hoped to at least hold on until overtime to gain a crucial point in the standings. This seemed to loosen Cadillac Zach's defenses as the Devils scored three goals in 12 seconds. Gionta (19:16), Jamie Langenbrunner (19:22), and Scott Gomez (19:28) all scored with some fancy stick handling in close on Thomas whose mask looked like that of a bobble head. Boston was able to control the center ice faceoff to stop the bleeding.
The rematch was scheduled in Boston as soon as the teams could charter a flight. Would the Devils have used up their tank of gas similar to the Sharks?
