GAME 4 Vancouver 2 @ Edmonton 4(F)
Luongo Slips on Oil
Edmonton AB
Canadian Press
With there backs against the wall down 2-1, the Canucks came out determined to limit the Oiler chances and to take the play to the host team. And that is what they did, hemming the home team into their own zone even when the Oilers were on a powerplay. For the second game in a row, Matt Cooke was able to score short handed on Roloson at 5:35 of the first period. The Oil had a tough time getting any offence going and the period ended 1-0.
The second period started better for the home team as they were finally able to sustain some pressure and center Horcoff was able to spring Joffrey Lupull in all alone and he was able to finish of a deke top shelf 6:04 into the period. For the rest of the period, theplay went back and forth without much offence generated as both defences shut things down tight. At 17:06 Rory "I missed going to the all star game by THIS much" Fitzpatrick squeaked a shot past Rolloson to give back the 1 goal lead.
The third period again began well for the home side as they scored two quick goals in the first two minutes as both Ryan Smyth and Petr Sykora were able to get shots past a less then stellar Luongo. And then the fire wagon seemed to show up as the Canucks came in waves against the Oilers and the Oilers just tried to survive. Dwayne Rolloson made many stellar saves as he robbed several Canucks point blank. The only relief came in the last few seconds as the Oilers won a face off and were able to salt away the victory with an empty netter.
