GAME 3 Edmonton 2 @ Vancouver 1 (F)
Canucks and Oil Overcome Technical and Personal Issues
Vancouver BC
Canadian Press
After a short hiatus, both teams were wanting to get the battle going again but the technical gods deemed otherwise, causing a lack of connectivity for over 30 minutes. As a last ditch effort, both sides restarted their modems and routers which did the trick.
The game started where Game 2 left off, tight checking and hard hitting hockey. Both goalies were flashing leather and nothing was going in. With offence at a premium, scoring came from the unlikeliest sources as young d-man Matt Greene was able to finish of a pass in the slot to pull the Oilers to 1-0 16 minutes in. About 2 minutes later 4th liner Brad Winchester was able to beat Luongo to pull the Oilers to a 2-0 lead. With pressure from the Canucks, the Oilers were able to hold on until the end of the period.
This is when the Oilers Assistant GM and Mascot decided it was grumpy/hungry time and play had to be stalled for a short while *I really appreciate the patience Moe, with the time difference, it's not easy*
The second started the same as the first, no room to move. The Canucks were caught for elbowing but were up to the task shutting down the Oilers powerplay. Consistent with the theme of the day, an unlikely source of offence appeared as Matt Cooke took an average wrist shot from the point while killing the penalty that somehow managed to get by Roloson. After that feeble attempt however, Roloson shut the door on several odd man rushes as neither team was able to muster any more offence from any source.
