Edmonton 6 @ Boston 1 (F)

Bruins and Oil Deplete Ice and Tylenol Reserves
Edmonton 6 @ Toronto 1 (F)

In a penalty filled, board and bone rattling battle, the Oilers and Bruins finished off their home and home series. The game got to a very weird start as the Bruins swarmed the Oilers goal and caught Dwayne Roloson wandering but the shot at the empty cage clanged of the crossbar. Unfazed, the Bruins continued to press and Marco Sturm was able to convert a semi-breakaway chance into a goal 5:57 into the first frame. While the Boston faithful were still celebrating and the announcer was still listing the assists, the Oilers came down and Petr Sykora was able to bury a rebound past Tim Thomas. The hammers seemed to come out as both sides made carrying the puck a life endangering endeavour. With around 5 minutes left, the Bruins got caught being a little too physical and Raffi Torres was able to convert a rebound to on the powerplay to put the Oilers up 2-1. The Oilers rookie Patrick Thoresen was able to convert a centering pass from Marty Reasoner to put the Oilers up 3-1 which is the way the 1st period ended.

The second period was filled with more physical play and several Boston penalties including a couple of 5-3 chances for the Oilers. Tim "the ToolMan" Thomas was able to keep the Oiler's powerplay off the score sheet. However, Ryan Smyth was able to score at even strength to add to the lead leaving the Oil up 4-1 after 40 minutes.

The third was filled with even more hits and penalties as both teams were able to kill off all of the short handed situations. Ales Hemsky and Ethan Moreau rounded up the scoring in the third as things turned even uglier with a 5 minute major for slashing and a 10 minute misconduct being assessed to the
Bruins. After what officials counted 120 hits, players on both sides were not available for comment as they were too busy icing down some major bruises.
