After getting drubbed at home by the same Lightning the Oilers went into Tampa Bay to seek out some revenge. The game was a lot tighter and the Oilers were actually to get some shots on net early but Marc Denis was stellar keeping the red light off. At the other end, Rolli the Goalie was back to his usual stellar self stoning Lecavier and the rest of the high flying TB forwards through a tight fought first period.
Both sides battened down the hatches even more in the second as the shot totals got reduced. Marc Denis seemed to have Joffrey Lupul's number with 2 great goal saves in the second and early in the third as the TB goalie seemed to be down and out but was still able to pluck the bisquit before it made it to the basket.

With just under 12 minutes left, the TB Lightning got hit with a hooking penalty and the Oilers went onto the powerplay. Unfortunately it seemed like both teams got a boost as chances happened at both ends of the ice. However, both goalies were stellar in defending their shut outs. With just seconds left in the powerplay, Raffi Torres took a lose puck and took a quick back hand shot which went of the post and, after close video review, was shown to have just gone over the line before Marc Denis grabbed the puck.

The next 7 minutes were hard fought with TB coming close with a couple of scrambles in front of the Oiler's net as Rolli's adventurous passes almost cost the lead. With about three minutes left, Oiler's big rookie defencemen Smid stepped up with a big hit at the Oilers blue line that had a little bit of a wandering elbow. In the next two minutes, the Lightning stormed at the Oilers' net but Duane Roloson stood up to the barrage. Just after the end of the PP, Smid picked up a lose puck in the neutral zone a fed a streaking Ethan Moreau who was able to make a move and put the puck past Marc Denis. With just over a minute left, the Lightning pulled their goalie but were unable to sustain any pressure. Eventually, Ryan Smyth found himself with the puck alone in front of the empty net and sealed the deal.
