New Jersey 7 - Pittsburgh 1
Devils Coninue To Roll, Set Sights On First Place
Like a well oiled machine, the New Jersey Devils were not very gracious hosts handing the Pittsburgh Penguins a 7-1 loss. Goals came rapidly and often for the home team as they built a comfortable 3-0 lead after one period. To start the second, Jamie Langenbrunner has continued his strong special teams play adding another powerplay goal. Fleury's net was ambushed all night long, and he succumbed to the pressure with a couple of bad goals. After the Devils built a 7 goal cushion, fans back in Pittsburgh could be heard yearning for a goal to have something to look forward to when the series shifts back to Pittsburhg. With just under a minute remaining in the game, Nils Ekman took a shot that was initially saved by Martin Brodeur, however Coach Viper used the powers of suggestion screaming "kick it in kick it in". Brodeur obliged to break the shutout.
