New Jersey 2 - Chicago 1

Devils Grind Out a "W"

The New Jersey Devils returned home to Continental Airlines Arena to host the Chicago Blackhawks in what would turn out to be a goaltending duel. Neither goaltender would allow a puck to get past them through the first two periods, although both goaltenders were aided by the friendly sound of the goalpost.

Just 1:17 into the third period, Patrik Elias attempted to bring the puck into the offensive zone when he was stood up at the blueline and lost the puck. Once he regained balance, he was able to regain control of the puck and put the biscuit in the basket off a partial breakaway. Midway through the third, Chicago took an undisciplined penalty that would pay dividends as Patrik Sharp was able to solve Martin Brodeur off a wraparound for a shorthanded goal at 7:33. With overtime looming, first line centerman Scott Gomez took destiny into his own hands as he rushed the puck up ice and was able to split two defensemen before sliding the puck through a crack in the 5-hole of the "Bulin Wall" for the game winner with 2:51 to play in the game to extend what is simply being known as "the streak".

Good game eeedowls. Glad we were finally able to meet and get our games in.
