New Jersey 1 - Buffalo 0
Strong Defensive Effort Lifts Devils
The New Jersey Devils skated into Buffalo last night hoping to solve Goaltender Ryan Miller who played a stellar game the last time these two teams met and were fortunate to return home with a victory. The Devils defense was able to either block or deflect most shots the entire evening. And when they weren't sacrificing the body, they were laying the body with some ferocious hip checks. Goaltender Martin Brodeur was able to earn yet another shutout by making 10 saves, many of which were of the routine variety. It was not until late in the third period that Coach OldTimeHockey was able to hypnotize Miller and told him to "pass the puck" instead of freezing it. Miller obliged and sent it up the middle to a wide open Travis Zajac who, even with Miller out of position, went for the perfect shot due to the goaltender's acrobatic saves all game. This almost backfired as he fanned on the puck and just barely snuck it under the crossbar. Buffalo frantically scrambled to get the tying goal, but the Devils were on lockdown to preserve the victory.
Great game Netcrawler! Sorry it had to end that way. I don't even think I shot the game winner cause I was pushing the right thumbstick to check someone.
