Blackhawks @ Lightning
Chicago 5 Tampa Bay 1
Dominant Hawks Win Third Straight
The Blackhawks came from a one goal deficit to score five straight and register their seventh win in their last nine games at the St Pete Times Forum last night.
It might seem that shaky goaltending was the order of the day but coach Angus said afterwards "I don't mind losing to goals like that" as he watched a replay of Martin Havlat's third period backhand deke completely wrong foot Grahame in the net. "I'll take it", said the happy Czech later, "I thought I had taken it too far, but it just managed to go in", after tonight's multipoint games Havlat and Vrbata pace the Hawks with identical scores - both have 8+5 for 13pts in fourteen games so far this season.
It could have been so different for Tampa Bay, who took a one goal lead into the second after Brad Richards banked one in off Khabibulin's skate as the Blackhawks struggled to get anything going. But the Blackhawks came out strong in the second with Havlat equalising before Michal Handzus gave the Hawks the lead with a top shelf wrister from the bottom of the left face off circle for the eventual game winner.
Tuomo Ruutu sealed the deal when at the start of the third the Lightning won a face-off but Ruutu pick pocketed the defenseman and skated in alone and sent Grahame the wrong way before Havlat scored the fourth with a highlight reel special. Radim Vrbata scored with a turn around wrister reminiscent of Eric Daze in hs prime to round off an excellent night for the surging Blackhawks.
Notes....
Not only are they level on points for the season, but Vrbata and Havlat are both on four game points streaks. Vrbata is 5+3=8 points and Havlat is 2+5=7 points.... Finnish forward Tuomo Ruutu has three goals in the last two games.... The RVH line has combine for fifteen points in their last two games...The Blackhawks have scored seventeen goals in their last three games, after managing managing seventeen in their first NINE games at the start of the season.... Nikolai Khabibulin had a 92.3%sp for his ninth win of the season....
