Tampa Bay 1 @ Toronto 2

Leafs score late to beat Bolts

Toronto(CP)- The Toronto Maple Leafs scored two goals in the last half of the third period to come back and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Monday night.

Both teams started out strong, getting numerous chances only to be stoned by the goaltenders, Andrew Raycroft for Toronto and Marc Denis for T-Bay. The game was highlighted by the Leafs hitting 4 goal posts, two by Mats Sundin, and Tampa Bay testing Raycroft repeatedly from the perimeter of the offensive zone.

Tampa Bay opened up the scoring at the 6:24 mark of the third, Martin St. Louis (I think) buried a Dan Boyle (Total guess) rebound. Marc Denis had made several huge saves throughout the game on glorious Leaf chances, but Jeff O'Neill finally beat him on a one-timer to the top corner at 11:23, tying the game at 1-1. Less than 3 minutes later, Matt Stajan was sent in alone on Marc Denis and roofed a beautiful backhander to put the Leafs out front 2-1.

The Leafs tightened the screws in the last minutes of the game, pulling out a 2-1 win over an excellent Lightning squad under coach Angus, and improving their GUGHL record to 6-1.

Leafs notes: The Leafs continued their huge faceoff advantage, taking 23 to T-Bay's 5...Darcy Tucker continued his strong play, assisting on O'Neill's tying goal and throwing several big hits on Lightning D...coach Paul Maurice has a cameo on the upcoming episode of The Trailer Park Boys, Maurice plays a drunken hobo
