Sabres @ Blackhawks

Buffalo 1 Chicago 2 (ot)

Outfought, outshot, outworked, but somehow the Hawks came up with the game winner to improve to .500 after four games this season.

The Sabres' jumped straight out of the gate and took a 1-0 lead early in the first period with a wrister from the top of the left face off circle but this was quickly nullified by Havlat equalising midway through the first. After that though, it was nearly all Sabres as Buffalo practically set up camp in the Hawks defensive zone and pummeled the Chicago net.

Miraculously, the game went to overtime and finally Chicago woke up. With the shot count at 29-13 at the end of the third the Hawks finally found some legs and a 4 on 3 powerplay also helped boost an anaemic offence. They couldn't get the breakthrough then though and left it until the last minute of overtime to register a second goal and of course, the gamewinner. Smolinski and Bochenski had acres of space in the Buffalo zone and Bochenski crashed the net with the puck going in off Miller's skate in the end to light the lamp and give the second point and the win to the Blackhawks.
