The first period of this contest was a shaky one to say the least for the Penguins, who scored on their own goal twice in the frame to help the Avalanche to a nice 3-0 lead after 20 mins. The coach was furious in the locker room and told the team that they needed to go out and shoot on the opponent's net instead of their own if they were to have any chance for a comeback, and that they did.

The second period was a lot more even as both teams scored one goal a piece in the 20 minute span. Pittsburgh saw this opportunity for a strong third and stole the momentum from the Colorado squad.

And so they came out flying barraging the Colorado net with unrelenting shots in the third, especially with special teams. The penalty kill was marvelous for the Pens and even scored twice on the same disadvantage. This caused the Avs to become careless and take undisciplined penalties which lead to a powerplay goal to tie the game late.

With under a minute remaining in regulation the Pens sealed the deal and left fans and players alike in awe.
