New Jersey 7 - Colorado 1

Devils Continue Run Of Strong Play

The New Jersey Devils continued their West Coast swing with a visit to Colorado, whom are looking to make an upward push in the standings. Play started out as a heavy hitting affair with neither team looking to budge an inch. Then 13:28 into the period, Joe Sakic found Frankie Hejduk all alone to Brodeur's right and was able to put the biscuit in the basket for an early 1-0 lead, something the Avalanche have become accustomed to this season. When asked after the game, Coach I Am Canadian stated "I've worked hard in practice this past week with Frankie and taught him my secret move...the spastic stick handler...which seems to not only fool the shooter, but more importantly the goalie. I'm glad he was able to utilize the tools I have given him in a game situation."

Unfortunately for the home crowd, Brodeur went on lockdown the rest of the game. Devils rookie Travis Zajac had an answer just 43 seconds later, and eventually staked the Devils to a lead off a goalie turnover by Jose Theodore. The horn sounded for the end of the period, and Coach OldTimeHockey ushered his team quickly to the locker room so as to not catch whatever disease the horn has due to its sickly sounding nature. This seemed to work as the Devils were supercharged for the second period scoring 4 unanswered goals. Travis Zajac was able to get his first career hat trick, Patrik Elias added two of his own, and Jamie Langenbrunner added his own to round out the scoring.

The third period was calmer than the second, however team captain Patrik Elias, not wanting to be shown up by a rookie, pumped one more into the net to complete his own hat trick.

Both teams were to immediately board a plane and head for New Jersey to complete the home and home series. Hopefully they will not be jet lagged from the experience.

Sign the apocalypse is upon us: Tyler Arnason first star??? What about Travis Zajac and his hat trick effort?
