New Jersey 5 - Phoenix 0
Brodeur Able To Shut The Door With Style
Martin Brodeur was able to "leave on a jet plane" for Phoenix to take on the Coyotes, but luckily he remembered to pack his "A" game as the New Jersey Devils blanked the Phoenix Coyotes 5-0. John Madden was able to get the game winner off a turnover and some pretty stickwork while shorthanded a man. This is the second straight game that the game winner was scored short handed.
In the second period, chants of "kick it in" could be heard from the crowd in reference to the mistakes that have plagued Curtis Joseph all year long. Sure enough with 68 seconds remaining in the period he was able to fight off a Patrik Elias shot, but the puck would end up behind him and would be kicked in amongst the scramble to recover. The bleeded would not end there as Jay Pandolfo added another with 21 seconds remaining.
The third period began and the home side tried to get the crowd back in the game by throwing their body around, however Sergei Brylin, who has been a member of all three Cup winning teams in franchise history, silenced their effort. With 5:16 remaining in the game, Zach Parise capped off a nice give and go play which resulted in the final goal at the back door.
Coach Hailsux could be heard muttering to himself that he needs to score at least one goal in the next game, so he resorted to his magic elixir....beer.....between games.
