New Jersey 1 - Colorado 0
Brodeur Stands Tall Again To Preserve Shutout
The Colorado Avalanche came to New Jersey with revenge on their minds from the performance they gave their home fans, however they could not muster the game tying goal against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey defense.
The first period was spent mostly skating around trying to get some managerial changes made for Colorado, but try as they might, New Jersey could not hand the puck over to the Avalanche long enough to call a timeout (pause the game), so they reverted to icing the puck. Not many chances were generated as the teams were trying to get their legs back from the long plane trip.
The second period saw more of a goaltending show as neither netminder wanted to be outdone with spectacular save after save.
Patrik Elias, thoroughly getting frustrated the entire game from not scoring, took an interference penalty just 5:59 into the period. Surprisingly the lack of discipline would be a benefit to the home squad as John Madden was able to find Brian Rafalski for a shot between the circles that hit the glove of Theordore, but the goalie could not keep it out of his net for a shorthanded goal with 13:31 remaining in the game. The remainder of the game was spent with the red shirts throwing the body in front of anything shot at the New Jersey net, and they were able to hang on for a hard fought, 1-0, defensive victory.
Good games IAC. Glad we were finally able to hook up.
