Oilers Survive Vengeful Avalanche
The Avalanche came home for the back end of a home and home game with vengence on their mind but the Oilers third line had other ideas, finishing off a quick passing play early in the first period for a quick 1-0 lead. The flow went back and forth from there, with both goalies standing big.
The Oilers seem not to have learned there lesson as Burnaby Joe got in free again and burnt Roloson one more time in the second to tie the score at 1. The game continued to be physical and tight checking with some major hits on both sides. Some lagginess again seeped in causing some choppy play which caused some less than stellar play but both teams battled it out. Some close chances which had the Oilers coach holding his breath especially with the last minute of the third period which seemed to take an eternity to roll by.
The OT was more of the same with chances and sustained pressure on both ends. With 2 minutes left, Steve Staios intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and gained the blue line. He floated a perfect pass to Ales Hemsky who had found an open shooting zone in the slot and one timed a shot past a screened Theodore. Thus ending a fiesty battle and giving the Oilers their 4th straight win.
