Devils 2 Buffalo 1 OT

New Jersey Goes On a Buffalo Hunt

The Devils of New Jersey played host to the Buffalo Sabres in their only visit this season to the Garden State. All fans in attendance were given a coupon to T.G.I.F.ridays for buy one get one free on all Buffalo Burger Combos.

The puck was dropped and both teams played fiercely in an attempt to get on the board first. Jay Pandolfo would be the first to find the twine with 53 seconds reminaing on a period when he let off a wicked wrist shot from between the faceoff circles.

In the second period, Buffalo came hard at New Jersey and was able to tie the game on a long wrist shot by Alex Kotalik that Brodeur juggled and it trickled in over the line. When asked after the game why he did not make the routine save, Brodeur responded "I was mesmerized by the fan sitting in the front row wearing a vintage blue Buffalo uniform. I daydreamed about the 3OT game I had against Dominick Hasek back in the 1994 playoffs, and when I came to I was getting a bit of sunburn on the back of my neck from the redlight. Next time I will try harder." And try harder he did as Brodeur was a one man show thwarting every opportunity thrown at him the rest of the way.

After an uneventful third period, Coach OldTimeHockey thought to himself he needs to win it here and avoid the shootout by taking advantage of all of the open ice provided by 4 on 4 hockey. And did they ever! With 1:24 elapsed, Patrik Elias was able to thread a pass from his own defensive zone to a streaking Scott Gomez who was able to deke his way behind the defense and go one on one with Miller, who looked like a deer caught in headlights. Gomez scored, and there was much rejoicing up in East Rutherford.

Great game Netcrawler. Hopefully we catch up again later tonight to finish off the series.
