Canucks @ Leafs

This first of a home and home series started out with both teams playing very cautiously and not giving up any odd man rushes. The first two periods were highlighted by a couple very big hits, with Vancouver's Sami Salo knocking the Leafs' Jeff O'Neill into next week with a hard open ice hit. Later in the 2nd period, Tomas Kaberle was able to catch Daniel Sedin with his head down coming over the blueline.

The first two periods were scoreless, with Roberto Luongo forced to make 16 saves over the first 40 minutes, compared to only 6 for Andrew Raycroft in the Leaf goal. The Canucks were having penalty trouble, which prevented them from getting a good rythym going. All the scoring was in the third period, Mats Sundin was finally able to give the Leafs a 1-0 lead, catching Luongo going the wrong way on a nice pass from Jeff O'Neill. The turning point came on a point shot from Hal Gill, which trickled through Luongo's pads to make it 2-0 Toronto. Mats Sundin added a beautiful one-time goal with 6 seconds left in the game to round out the scoring.
