The Hawks jumped to an early lead and held off a strong fightback by San Jose to take the two points for their second road win in as many attempts last night in California. Martin Havlat scored unassisted on a wraparound to open the scoring before the Sharks equalised before the first break. The Hawks again took the lead in the second with the Havlat-Ruutu-Vrbata line wreaking havoc in the Sharks defensive zone with a strong forecheck establishing plenty of chances before Havlat got his second of the night and Bochenski got what became the game winner before Jumbo Joe got one back for the Sharks who trailed going into the third.


San Jose came to life in the last period, out shooting the Hawks 7-2 but Khabibulin came up big to stone the Sharks and hand the two points to Chicago. Interestingly, all three Blackhawk goals were unassisted!
