Blackhawks @ Sabres
Chicago 2 Buffalo 0
Chicago hopped across the continent in a crazy road trip to series sweep the Sabres in a strong showing last night in Buffalo.
The Blackhawks opened the scoring early with a Radim Vrbata wraparound and pounded the net for the rest of the period but Miller stood strong in the face of a relentless forecheck to keep the score at 1-0 going into the break even though the Hawks outshot the Sabres 10-3. If anything, the Hawks cam out even stronger in the second and only the stellar goaltending of Ryan Miller kept them in the game as Buffalo just couldn't get anything going on offense at all this period and didn't manage one shot against Chicago's nine.
In the third the Sabres finally found their feet and outshot the Hawks 7-4 but the Blawkhawks got the goal that sealed the win with the now departed Kyle Calder registering his first goal of the season on a feed from Ruutu. Khabibulin faced just ten shots for his first shutout of the season and his first ever as a Blackhawk.
Shots on goal
Chicago 23
Buffalo 10
Three Stars
1. Radim Vrbata (Chi)
2. Rene Borque (Chi)
3. Ryan Miller (Buf)
Thanks for the game NC - it all seemed to come good for me last night! good game and series!
