Blackhawks @ Canucks
Chicago 2 Vancouver 0
Hawks Make it Two SO's in a row
The roster might have looked different with noe fewer than four players making their season debut but the Blackhawks made it three wins on the bounce and got their second shut out in as many games by defeating the Canucks at Vancouver last night.
The Hawks jumped out of the gate early with Martin Havlat's fifth goal of the season in the first period assisted by Radim Vrbata and they controlled the rest of the period, outshooting Vancouver 6-2. The second was much tighter with strong defensive play from both teams the order of the day but neither team could find the breakthrough.
There was a bit of a disaster at the end of the second when the lights failed, but after searching for the answer for thirty minutes, it was discovered that the electricity bill hadn't been paid so a quick electronic funds transfer was made so play could resume.
The Hawks opened the third with Smolinski winning a face-off in the right circle, the puck dropped back to Brent Seabrook who one timed a beauty passed an unsuspecting Luongo to double the advantage and the Hawks held on to take the two.
Next up is a rematch as the two teams face each other in a home and home.
Shots on goal:
Chicago 20
Vancouver 12
Three Stars
1. Martin Havlat (Chi)
2. Brent Seabrook (Chi)
3. Nikolai Khabibulin (Chi)
